History
In the VII century after the conquest of the Western Territory by the Tang Empire in this region was one of the "four districts of the pacified West."
When the Qing Empire in 1884, the administrative unit "Kashgar region" (喀什 噶尔 道) was formed, which subordinate were:
- two councils
- one directly controlled commissariat,
- one border police station and
- one directly controlled area.
After the Xinhai Revolution, the Kashgar region was transformed into the Kashgar administrative region.
In 1933-1934 Kashgar was the capital of the Islamic Republic of Eastern Turkestan, which did not receive international recognition. A capital district was formed on the basis of the Kashgar administrative region ...
In 1943, the Kashgar administrative region was divided into District No. 3 (Kashgar) and District No. 10 (Yarkand). After the formation of the People's Republic of China (1949), the Kashgar Special Region and the Yarkand Special Region were created. In 1956, the Yarkand Special District was disbanded, and its lands became part of the Kashgar Special District. In January 1971, the Kashgar Special District was transformed into the Kashgar District.
By the decision of the State Council of the PRC of September 17, 2002, Tumshuk was separated from Maralbashy district into a separate city district, subordinated directly to the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
