A universal midfielder, known in Spain as “El Pirata” (“Pirate”), Granero can play both a central midfielder and a creative midfielder-passer, and if necessary, he can play on the right flank of midfielder. His main role is considered to be the position of a playmaker. The nickname "Pirate" was assigned to him as follows. As Esteban himself admits, he did not know how to celebrate his goals, and did not come up with anything more original than how to start covering one eye with his hand. Journalists immediately came up with a nickname for him, looking at this gesture, as well as at his tousled hair and funny beard [3] .

Biography

Esteban Granero came to the football school of Real Madrid at the age of 8 years old and almost immediately began to demonstrate his talent there. He was entrusted with the position of the striker. In one of the seasons, Granero scored 83 goals in the championship under 10 years old. As he said in one of his interviews: “... it’s just a secret that I was then superior to everyone else. I beat stronger than others and was stronger than all. Then I grew up, the body formed and everything was balanced, and I was pushed to the center of the field ” [3] .

In 1999, Granero became the captain of Team B of Real Madrid until the age of 12, which then won an international football tournament in the corresponding age category. His finale was played at the Palau Sant Jordi stadium ( Cat. Palau Sant Jordi ) in the capital of Catalonia, and there Real Madrid beat the Barcelona team 1-0. The only goal scored in overtime was on the account of Esteban, who was then recognized as the best player in the tournament.

At the age of 17, he joined the third team of Real Madrid - Real Madrid C. Standing out for his extraordinary talent and passing skills, Esteban Granero was recognized as “El Crack” (“Shot” - the most outstanding, extraordinary player) of group 7 Tercera of the 2005/06 season according to the authoritative Spanish football publication “Don Balón”.

In 2006, playing side by side with his teammates Juan Mata and Alberto Bueno , Granero won the U-19 Champions Cup - the official U-19 tournament in Spain organized by the Royal Football Federation of Spain. In the same year, Esteban played his debut match for Real Madrid B - the second team of Real Madrid. It was a match against the Albacete team, during which Granero assisted.

Granero made an impressive leap in development, playing for Castilla (Real Madrid B) in the 2006/07 season, which then also played in the Spanish Segund - the second most important football league in Spain, and gradually gained the confidence of the training team in those years Michela , ultimately becoming a solid base player. But in the end, he, like other canter graduates Ruben De la Redu , Javi Garcia and Adrian Gonzalez , failed to break into the first team of Real Madrid and on August 31, 2007, on the last day of the transfer window , Granero joined the Madrid squad on a one-year lease Getafe . Ruben de la Red also went there, but on different conditions.

He made his debut for “Getafe” on September 16, 2007, in the match of the 3rd round of the championship of Spain against “ Hispaniola ”. But his debut was somewhat spoiled. Getafe lost, and he himself received a red card [4] .

Real Madrid has announced an agreement to move Esteban Granero to Queens Park Rangers. The transfer amount was 6-8 million euros.

July 7, 2017 signed a contract with Espanyol . The 30-year-old footballer, as a free agent, joined the Catalan team after terminating the contract with Real Sociedad by mutual agreement of the parties. The player’s contract is for three years.
