Biography

Born in 1917 in the city of Tver .

In 1933 , after graduating from FZU school, he entered work as an electrician at the Tver Carriage Works. At the same time he worked part-time as a factory newspaper correspondent. He was seen and appointed editor of the factory broadcasting ..

In 1936 (at the age of 19) he was appointed editor of the Tver factory newspaper and deputy director of the club in Ostashkov. In 1939 , he became head of the artistic department of the regional newspaper Proletarskaya Pravda in Kalinin .

In 1940 he was drafted into the Red Army, appointed instructor-writer of the newspaper of the 22nd Estonian Territorial Rifle Corps, formed on the basis of the former Estonian army. In this capacity, he saw the beginning of World War II .

In 1941 - 1942 He was a war correspondent and special correspondent for corps and army newspapers on the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts. Then, until 1943 , he was an assistant to the chief of staff of the regiment on the Kalinin front.

From 1943 to 1946 he served as a senior instructor of the political department of the division in the Estonian Rifle Corps , fought under Velikiye Luki , liberated the territory of Estonia and Latvia.

After the war, he worked in Tallinn as head of the department of a republican newspaper, then, since 1946 , as head of the press sector of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia.

In 1948 , A. Pork began serving in the state security organs, enrolling in the Higher School of the Ministry of State Security of the USSR in Moscow. He graduated from it two years later, in 1952. He arrived in Estonia as the head of the county MGB. Later he was the head of the police department of the republic.

In 1959 - 1961 - Minister of the Interior of the Estonian SSR .

In 1961 he was confirmed as chairman of the State Security Committee under the Council of Ministers of the Estonian SSR . He held this position for more than 20 years, until 1982, when he headed the local KGB, participated in exposing and identifying enemy agents in Estonia, organized various special operations to identify the Estonian residency of foreign intelligence, acted in the government commission for the rehabilitation of illegally deported to certain areas country.

KGB General Philip Bobkov testified: “In the mid-70s, the conclusions of a sociological study conducted in Estonia were reported to the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU ... about serious cracks in international relations, about the growth of separatist tendencies in the republic ... the materials were sent to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia for adoption measures. And they accepted - they removed from work an experienced security officer, a military journalist, the chairman of the Estonian KGB, August Petrovich Pork, a principled person ” [1] .

From 1963 he was elected to the Supreme Council of the Estonian SSR, in 1979 - to the Supreme Council of the USSR.

With the collapse of the USSR, he moved to Moscow, where he died.
