Biography
Dmitry Efimovich Oskalenko was born on November 8, 1919 in the village of Sledyuki , now Bykhov district of the Mogilev region , in a peasant family. Belarus .
He graduated from the 3rd course of the Minsk Polytechnic College .
Since 1937 in the Red Army . In 1939 he graduated from the Leningrad Military Aviation Technical School . Member of the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940 . In 1941 he graduated from the Kachin Military Aviation School of Pilots .
In the battles of World War II from June 1941 . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1941. He distinguished himself in the defense of Leningrad . One of the first to master the technique of night flying.
By June 1942, the flight commander of the 26th Fighter Aviation Regiment ( 7th Fighter Aviation Corps of the Air Defense , Leningrad Air Defense Army, Air Defense Forces of the country) of the Guard captain D. E. Oskalenko made 197 sorties, personally shot down 11 and 23 fights Group 1 enemy aircraft. On September 26, 1942 , performing a combat mission, he was attacked by enemy fighters in the area of the village of Manushkino in the Leningrad Region and shot down, jumped with a parachute, but at low altitude the parachute did not manage to open.
He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Dubrovka .
By the time of his death in combat, he completed 230 sorties, spent about 30 air battles, personally shot down 12 aircraft and 3 in the group [1] .
Rewards
- February 14, 1943 for courage and military valor shown in battles with enemies, he was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
- He was awarded the orders of Lenin , the Red Banner and the Red Star .
Memory
- Streets in the cities of St. Petersburg [2] and Bykhov , squares in the village of Dubrovka and the village of Sledyuki are named after him.
- A memorial plaque is installed on the building of the Dubrovskaya high school.
- In St. Petersburg, a monument to pilots Heroes of the Soviet Union Dmitry Oskalenko, Peter Pokryshev and Alexander Savushkin was erected on Savushkina Street .
