On March 18, 1970 , when Norodom Sihanouk was on a visit to Beijing , the Royal Council and the National Assembly announced his removal from power. This happened under pressure from military and right-wing leaders led by Lon Nol and Prince Sisovat Sirik Matak . The coup organizers were given extraordinary powers.
Lon Nol sent his brother to Kampongtam Province to monitor the situation. Lon Neal was elected for this partly because he owned rubber plantations in the area, and as a result he was well-versed. On March 23, China-based Sihanouk issued a public statement calling on Cambodians to rebel against the government. Riots began in Kampongtyam, as a result of which the governor's palace was captured and several government officials were killed. The rioters seized Lon Neal, killed him, and then cut out his liver. Then she was taken to a Chinese restaurant, where the owner was ordered to cook and chop it. In the end, she was served at the same restaurant.
