Biography
Gaspard del Buffalo was born on January 6, 1776 in Rome. He was ordained priest in 1808. Together with other priests, he refused to swear allegiance to Napoleon Bonaparte , for which he was exiled to northern Italy, where he stayed from 1810 to 1814. After returning to Rome in 1814, he wanted to join the Jesuit Order, but at the request of Pope Pius VII , who was appointed to the Ministry of Preaching of the Papal Region , refused his desire and remained in Rome. On August 15, 1815, he founded the Congregation of the Most Precious Blood of Christ, and subsequently, together with Maria de Mattis, he founded the female branch of the congregation, which became known as the “ Congregation of the Adolescents of the Blood of Christ ”.
Engaged in active pastoral and social activities among the poor and marginalized in central Italy, especially in the Papal region. He founded the shelter of St. Gall in Rome. He was acquainted with saints Vincent Pallotti and Vincent Stramby . In the autumn of 1837 he became ill with cholera and died on December 28, 1837 in Rome.
