History
In 1924, the orchestra performed for the first time in place at the famous Ars Moscow cinema on Arbat, instead of the usual pianist-tapper. Such a change in the musical accompaniment of films has gained popularity among viewers. Since then, under the direction of conductor David Blok , the orchestra began to play in other cinemas.
In 1930-1940, the orchestra performed music for films by such directors as Sergei Eisenstein , Vsevolod Pudovkin , Grigory Alexandrov and Ivan Pyryev . Among the subsequent films, the musical parts for which the orchestra performed - films awarded the Oscar ( War and Peace , Dersu Uzala , Burnt by the Sun , Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears ), as well as contemporary Russian films ( “ Doctor Zhivago ”, “ Miracle ”, “ Chamber No. 6 ”, “ Petya on the road to the Kingdom of Heaven ”, “ Tsar ”, “ 12 ”, “ Admiral ”).
At different times, Alexander Gauk , Evgeny Svetlanov , Yuri Nikolaevsky , Mark Ermler , Konstantin Krimets , Georgy Garanyan stood behind the conductor's desk.
In 1953-1963, the artistic director and director of the orchestra was Levon Atovmyan [1] . From 1993 to the present, the main conductor and artistic director of the orchestra is Sergey Skripka , People's Artist of Russia, laureate of the Russian Government Prize in the field of culture, professor.
Activities
Performing music for movies requires special professionalism. Unlike concert performance, rehearsals before performing music for films for a film orchestra are very limited and require the ability to instantly enter the atmosphere of each film. The orchestra is able to play in different compositions and can be transformed into a jazz and pop group.
The orchestra also performs Russian and foreign classical and modern music in concerts. She constantly performs in subscription concerts of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic Society with programs that appeal to both adults and children. In the 2006-2007 season, the team first introduced the “Live Screen Music” personal subscription. The orchestra took part in such music festivals as: “December evenings”, “Music of friends”, music festivals for children, as well as “ Moscow Autumn ” and others: “Slavic Bazaar” in Vitebsk, Festival of Russian Culture in India .
Since 1991, the orchestra of cinematography began touring, performing in Berlin "Military Requiem" by E. B. Britten and the Seventh Symphony by D. Shostakovich .
Since 2006, the orchestra has performed with the personal philharmonic subscription “Live Screen Music” [2] on the stage of the P. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (author of the cycle is S. I. Skrypka), whose programs are continuous musical and dramatic acts using a video sequence .
