Biography

He was born in a family of Japanese immigrants : his grandfather came to America to participate in the earthquake relief operation in San Francisco in 1906 , his father was born in California, but was educated in Japan and spoke poor English; father met his mother during World War II in the camp for interned Japanese , and his elder brother was born there.

He studied , was the captain of the school’s chess team. In his school years, he built a Wilson chamber and a 2.3 million electron-volt particle accelerator [4] , presented designs at the national science fair in Albuquerque , where he attracted the attention of physicist Edward Teller . Teller helped get scholarship and enrolled at Harvard University . He received his bachelor's degree at Harvard in 1968, after which he entered the radiation laboratory at Berkeley , where in 1972 he became a doctor of philosophy . In 1973 he was invited to Princeton University .

During the Vietnam War, he was drafted into the army, graduated from basic training at Fort Benning ( Georgia ) and advanced training for infantry at ( Washington ), but did not get to the front due to the end of the war.

Since the 1980s, he has been a teacher at New York City College .

Wife - Shizue Kaku, the family has two daughters. As of the 2010s, he lives with his family in New York.
