The steam locomotive X is a Russian freight locomotive of type 1-4-0 (the first steam locomotive of this type on Russian railways) produced by the American Baldwin plant (Baldwin) . In the early 1900s, steam locomotives were modernized: they installed steam superheaters , and the steam engine was replaced by a simple compound. Such locomotives assigned the designation X p .

Also X series ( Murmansk ) steam locomotives belong to the X series. These locomotives were manufactured in 1915-1916. at the American factory Porter and got into Russia during the period of foreign intervention with the occupying forces. After the withdrawal of the occupying troops, the locomotives hit the Murmansk railway . They had nothing in common with the other locomotives of the series except for the country of construction and the axial formula.
In 1923, there were still 127 locomotives of the X series (including X m ), in 1940 - 26, and in 1955 the last locomotives of the series were completed.
