Ascola (culture)

The culture of Ascol is an archaeological culture of the Mesolithic era in Finland .

The name of the culture comes from the Ascol volost in the province of Uusimaa . The objects found are made of quartz - these are scrapers, an awl, etc. Products have a rough shape with shallow retouching. The dating of the culture is based on the findings and on the estimated location of the coastline in the Mesolithic period.

According to some archaeologists, the Ascol culture was a local variation of the Norwegian culture of Koms ; according to others, the Suomusjärvi culture , which dominated Finland in the Mesolithic era.

The term is no longer used in Finnish archeology.
