Children of the living dead

In a small provincial town in the United States in 1964, an epidemic of local zombies happens. A local cemetery rises from the ground.

Riots begin. In a panic, several children disappear. According to the description of the prehistory, one of the possible reasons is the landing of a space probe returning from Venus near the town.

With the help of the army and the police, local citizens, having worked hard, manage to cope and suppress the epidemic, destroying all but one zombie.

On the territory of the city there is the estate of Abbot Hayes ( Barret Worland ), who during his life was a dangerous maniac and committed a series of murders. Once in prison, Abbott Haze is killed by cellmates. After the murder, being buried in his estate, Abbott Haze rises from the grave.

The estate is considered to be proven to the last, but when Sheriff Randolph ( Marty Skiff ) and his assistant survival instructor Hughes ( Tom Savini ) go there, they stumble upon a zombie maniac, and there are children with him. A fight happens, Hughes dies, and the sheriff is afraid to check whether Hayes is dead or not.

After fourteen years, Haze still wanders around. One day a group of teenagers going to a concert goes to his manor for the thrill. One of them is a saved child. Not finding anything terrible, they leave, but on the way Haze leaves them to meet and, unable to cope with the management, the guys break off the cliff.

When their coffins are left for the night in the cemetery, the grave-digger, who was supposed to do his duty, does not come and the coffins are opened by looters. Abbott Haze bites one of the marauders and corpses lying in coffins and infects them all.

The sheriff who comes to investigate the case of missing corpses forces the grave-digger to sell the graveyard’s land to another owner. New owners, who soon buy the plot, are going to build a car dealership at the cemetery site. Instead of re-burial of the corpses in the new cemetery, they dig them out and transport them into a freshly dug trench, which they then leave for the time being open. Without being under the ground, the dead during the rain are infected by Abbott Hayes.

The son of the construction manager, who arrived there with a foreman, stumbles upon them in order to then be saved and take refuge in a cafe with his local acquaintance. This local acquaintance - also a surviving child, she was also going to go to the concert with the dead teenagers, but missed him because she had to replace her drunk husband, the owner of the cafe.

Leaving the lights on, which is not typical for the cafe's working hours, they lure the sheriff there, who by the mobile phone calls people with weapons to take part in suppressing the zombie epidemic for good. During the battle, the sheriff is killed.

Zombies in this picture manifest themselves ambiguously. On the one hand, Abbott Haze has a mind and can perform deliberate acts, on the other hand there are other zombies who act according to the canons of zombies found in the classic films of George Romero. In addition, you can kill zombies in this film in several ways: either with a classic shot in the head, or with numerous shots into the body.

• According to Tom Reimsi, he was under serious pressure from the producers, who demanded to shoot their friends in the film, and after the end of the filming he was generally removed from further work.
• When sheriff Randolph tells the story, he mentions two outbreaks of epidemics, the dates of these outbreaks are the dates for the release of two famous dead man movies: The Night of the Living Dead ( 1968 ), The Return of the Living Dead ( 1986 ).
