In the Philippine Sea, the province of Quezon includes the islands of Polillos, Alabat, Polillo .
Quezon is a rather large province, with an area of 8706.6 km². Its northern part adjoins the Sierra Madre mountain system. Mount Banachau, an active volcano , is the highest point (2188 m).
History
Originally, the lands of Quezon were distributed between the provinces of Batangas , Laguna and Nueva Esih . The first territory developed by conquistador Juan de Salcedo was called Laguna Camarines (1571-1572). Then she received the name Kalirai. The capital was Unisan . In the XVIII century, the capital was moved to the city of Tayabas, from which the province received a new name. The Moro peoples , partially inhabiting the territory of this province, tried to separate themselves from Christians. The local population was generally dissatisfied with the policies of the Spanish colonialists. Therefore, riots arose, such as, for example, the rebellion of Confradius in 1641 , led by Lucbano, also known as Ermano Pula. The people of the province supported the general Philippine revolution, which took place shortly before the establishment of the American regime.
In 1901 , under the Americans, the provincial capital was moved to Lucena. During the Second World War, like other provinces, Quezon, then also Tajabas, underwent the invasion of the Japanese. After the expulsion of the latter, in 1946, it was decided to rename the province into Quezon. The sub-province, Aurora ( 1951 ), so named in honor of the wife of President Manuel Quezon, was then included in Quezon . Later, in 1979 , she stood out in a separate province. On May 17, 2010, the governor of the province, Rafael Nantes, was killed in a helicopter crash near the town of Lucena . [one]
