Story

" Kine Journal ", 1911, No. 20, p. 19:

“Which of us has not read Chekhov's“ The Double Bass Novel ”, this elegant joke, the prank of the pen of a talented writer. Recall briefly the contents. A musician is invited to house a family house with his friends. Our hero plays the double bass and therefore it is natural that the bulky instrument was far from a light burden and prompted the tired musician to bathe in the waters of the river lying in the way. The same thought comes to a young summer resident, a lover of fishing. And here on the stage are two swimmers. A whim of fate needed the thieves to pull off their entire dress decisively, and the bathers have to get acquainted on the shore in the suits of their ancestors. The musician is taken to rescue the girl from a ticklish position. He hides it in a case of double bass, and he goes for help. Meanwhile, the case was found by the musician's friends. Unaware of what is hidden in it, they deliver it to the country, wondering at the severity of the instrument. In the end, the girl has to appear in public in a rather light suit. Picture!.."

Reviews

" Blue-Fono ", 1911, No. 2, p. 12:

“This, if not mistaken, is the first interpretation of Chekhov’s works on the cinema screen. And justice must be given, he was treated with all the respect that deserves the name of Anton Pavlovich. "A well-played tape is still remarkable for its strikingly clean and juicy photograph and the beauty of the places in which the action takes place."
