History

Early History

The creation of a modern form of mail in Azerbaijan dates back to the first half of the 19th century.

In 1818, the first post office in Azerbaijan began work in Ganja (then Elizavetpol), and thereby a postal service was created. Later, in 1826, sweat expeditions were established in Baku , and then in 1828 in Nakhichevan. 12 years after the first office, post offices functioned in Shusha , Shemakha , Baku , Guba and Nakhichevan .

In the 60-70s of the XIX century, a post office also functioned in Julfa , through which the first international exchange with Iran was carried out.

On October 6, 1918, the Post and Telegraph Agency was established in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic .

With the collapse of the USSR and gaining state independence, a new stage began in the development of postal services in Azerbaijan .

Education

In March 1997, a short-term revival and development program was adopted, and in December, a long-term Concept for the development of postal services for 1998-2003 was approved [1] .

The postal service began to be provided by the Azerpost Production Association (PO), which was transformed into the State Enterprise (GP) Azerpost by decree of the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 151 dated September 29, 1999 . Thus, the State Post “Azerpost” became the successor of the software “Azerpost”. [2]

In 2002, the "Postal Rules" were approved.
