The medal is awarded to servicemen who were in the occupation of garrisons in Germany or Austria-Hungary from November 12, 1918 to July 11, 1923 . The medal was created in connection with the growing tension in relations with Germany between 1939 and 1941 . Initially, the blue strip at the edge of the coin was wavy to indicate the Rhine River , but it was not practical for the mass production of the coin, and it was replaced with a straight line.
The Medal of the Occupation Army in Germany is a separate award and differs from the Medal of the Occupation Army , which was created in 1946 after the Second World War .
