History and Celebration
International Chess Day has been celebrated since 1966 . The initiative to create this holiday belongs to the World Chess Federation ( FIDE ), which was founded on July 20, 1924 in Paris [2] . According to FIDE in 2012, there were 605 million adults in the world who constantly play chess [3] .
The holiday is celebrated in 178 countries. The tradition of celebration laid down by UNESCO . On this day, under the auspices of FIDE, various thematic events and competitions are held [4] . Sessions of simultaneous playing chess are held even in places of detention [5] .
On July 20, 2004, world champion Anatoly Karpov gave a simultaneous game in the Kremlin . Among others, he tied with deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky . They played an artistic set of diamond figures worth 150 thousand US dollars [6] .
