The Mikhail Sholokhov International Prize in the field of literature and art is an award established in 1992 by the International Union of Writers Unions (ASHI), the Union of Artists of Russia and the Soviet writer (publishing house) , the Moscow State Open Pedagogical University. It is awarded to Russian and foreign writers, poets, government and public figures for the best works on historical themes, poetry collections and philological studies published in Russia. Three (sometimes more) equivalent prizes are awarded annually. The laureate receives a diploma , a commemorative medal and a cash reward. It is awarded in Moscow in the last days of May (to the birthday of Mikhail Sholokhov).
