Serpentine performed by Annabela Moore

“ ”, or “serpentine dance”, is also called the “Loi Fuller dance” - after the dancer Loi Fuller , who first performed it on the stage. Loi Fuller herself did not star in Edison's films. Much later, she nevertheless performed her dance in front of the movie camera, but this record did not receive such fame as the film with Annabela Moore. "Serpentine" was performed with long bedspreads, which were painted in different colors with electric spotlights. In order to convey all the features of the “snake dance”, the film of the film with the dance Annabelle was painted by hand in the West Orange [1] .

The shooting took place in the pavilion " Black Mary ", specially built by Edison to create movie clips using a kinetoscope .

The film is sometimes called the first colorized film in the history of cinema. Indeed, this is the earliest color film that has survived to this day - however, it was shot as black and white, and only after shooting each frame was painted manually.

The tape was a commercial success due to the hype around Annabela Moore: “... rumors spread about her as if she was dancing naked in front of the guests of the heir to the Barnum circus , which raised the price and demand for the kinetoscope tapes on which she was shot ...” [1]
