Vapor barrier is a combination of various methods of protecting heat-insulating materials and building structures from the penetration of steam and, as a result, from the loss and absorption of condensate (dew).
Content
Materials
As a vapor barrier, polymer varnishes, roll and sheet materials, vapor barrier films are used, for example: geosynthetics or PVC membranes , glassine , roofing felt , ruberoid , spunbond , and in hot rooms, for example, in bathhouses or behind batteries , foil or thermofol .
Application
The vapor barrier is nailed to wooden structures directly in front of the heater with brackets using a stapler, or is fixed in another way. It is laid end-to-end or with an overlap; seams are glued with duct tape . Widely used in wooden housing construction . Typically, in structures of heated buildings, vapor barrier is located inside from under the inner finishing layer. In outer fences of rooms where the temperature is kept cold, as a rule, two vapor barrier layers are arranged: on the inner and outer surfaces, since in summer the outside temperature will be higher than in the room and the steam flow will have a direction from the outside to the inside of the building.
In emergency cases, in order not to freeze, tourists use vapor barrier: they put on a plastic bag and clothes on top, thereby reducing heat loss with steam. [1] .
