Biography
Early years
Hashim Tabith was born and raised in the largest city of Tanzania , Dar es Salaam . As a child, he was fond of football , and took up basketball at the age of 13-14, when the coach of the children's basketball team invited a tall young man (at that time Hashim's height was about 190 cm) for training [3] .
Having decided to continue playing basketball in the USA , Hashim found an American coach on the Internet ready to take him to the team [4] . In 2005, he arrived in Houston , Texas , and enrolled in graduation class at the Cypress Community Christian School. At the first training, Tabith impressed the coaches and teammates with his huge growth (then he was about 220 cm), but his playing qualities were at a very low level. Under the leadership of Craig Cleveland, head coach of the Cypress School basketball team, Hashim quickly progressed and completed his only season in the school championship with good indicators: about 16 points , 10 rebounds and 4 block shots per game [5] .
College
In 2006, Tabith received a sports scholarship from the University of Connecticut . He became the tallest player in the history of the university basketball team [4] . Coach Jim Calhoun , who raised many future NBA stars, immediately entrusted Hashim with a place in the starting five. In his debut season, Tabith played 31 games (all in the starting five), gaining an average of 6.2 points and making 6.4 rebounds and 3.8 block shots. According to the results of the 2006/2007 season, he entered the symbolic rookie team of the Big East conference, also in that season Hashim repeated the team record that belonged to Donnel Marshall and Emeka Okafor , according to the number of block shots in one game - 10 [6] .
In the second season at college, Tabith played in 33 games in which he averaged 10.5 points, made 7.9 rebounds and 4.5 block shots. In one of the championship matches, he repeated the achievement - 10 block shots in one game [7] . At the end of the season, he was recognized as the best defensive player of the student championship according to the version of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, as well as the best defensive player of the Big East conference and was included in the second symbolic team of the conference.
Tabith finished the third season at college with a double double on average per game: 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 block shots. At the end of the season, he was again recognized as the best defensive player of the student championship according to the version of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the best defensive player of the Big East conference, he also shared the title of best player of the year at the Big East conference with Dejuan Blair and entered the second symbolic team of the best players student championship.
After three seasons in the team of the University of Connecticut, Tabith came out on the second place in the number of block shots in the history of the Big East conference, his rate of 243 was only five block shots below the record of the famous center Patrick Ewing [1] [8] .
NBA
On April 14, 2009, Tabith announced his decision to skip the last season at college and stand as a candidate for the NBA draft [9] . On June 25, 2009, Hashim was selected in a draft under the second number by the Memphis Grizzlies team [10] . On July 19, 2009, he signed his first professional contract for two years, for which he received about $ 7.7 million [1] .
On March 15, 2012, Tabith, along with Johnny Flynn and the right to choose in the second round of the future draft, was exchanged at the Portland Trail Blazers for Marcus Cambie [11] .
On July 11, 2012, Hashim signed a contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder [12] . On November 26, 2012, in a game against Charlotte Bobcats , which ended in a victory for Thunder with a score of 114-69, Tabith, having collected 13 points and collected 10 rebounds, made his first double-double in the NBA [13] .
