Biography

In 1906, at the horse races in Moscow, Fedor Chaliapin met Maria Petzold. By this time, Chaliapin and Maria Petzold already had families. Maria Valentinovna had two children from her first marriage. Soon, Maria Petzold moved to Chaliapin in St. Petersburg . Having not received a divorce, they live in a civil marriage - they have three daughters: Martha ( 1910 - 2003 ), Marina ( 1912 - 2009 ) and Dacia ( 1921 - 1977 ). [2]

In fact, Chaliapin had one family in the old capital of Moscow, and another in the new one: one family did not go to Petersburg , and the other to Moscow . Officially, the marriage of Maria Valentinovna with Chaliapin was formalized in 1927 already in Paris .

As a child, Marina was sick with tuberculosis and doctors advised changing the St. Petersburg climate to the southern one.

In 1922, at the age of 10, Marina emigrated from Russia with her entire Chaliapin family and settled in Paris. Here, Marina studied dance at the ballet studio of Matilda Kshesinskaya . However, she was injured as a result of falling to rehearsals, and she was not destined to become a ballerina.

In 1931, Marina Chaliapina won the Miss Russia beauty pageant , which since 1927 has been held annually in Paris among Russian immigrant girls.

Marina Chaliapina continued her education in New York , where she studied at the Academy of Interior and Design . From America, Marina moved to Vienna, Austria , where she studied as a theater director . From Vienna, she went to Italy to work on a film about classical ballet, where she met her future husband Luigi Freddy. Luigi Freddy was the owner of many talents [3] - a journalist and administrator , he stood at the origins of Italian cinema, holding the post of Director General of the Cinematography Department at the Italian Ministry of Press and Propaganda [4] . Among his other achievements, Freddy was the organizer of the first Venice Film Festival , and in 1937, with his active participation, the largest at that time in Europe Cinechitt film studio was opened, where he himself acted as a producer and directed Marina Chaliapina-Freddy in three films “ Old times ”,“ Only for you, Lucia ”and“ No one’s children ”.

After the Second World War, Marina Chaliapina-Freddy worked on a cruise ship - conducted tours, music meetings. Marina was an officer of the Italian navy [5] . Marina Fedorovna Chaliapina-Freddy was fluent in five languages.

In a marriage with Luigi Freddy, Marina had a daughter, Angela Freddy-Monteforte, who lives in Italy [6] .

She died on July 14, 2009, having lived 97 years.
