Career

At the club level, Silvio Lagreca played for the clubs “ San Bento ” and “ Botafogo ”. He began his career at Sao Bento in 1914 and won the Sao Paulo Championship with this team in the very first year of his game. Then he played for Botafogo from 1922 to 1925 [1] [2] .

Lagreca made his debut in the Brazilian national team on July 21, 1914 in the first match of the Brazilian national team in history. In this game, the Exeter City English team opposed the Brazilians. In the same year, Lagreka and the national team won the first round of the Rock Cup .

In 1916, Lagreka went to the South American Championship , in which the Brazilians took third place out of four. Lagreka participated in this tournament as a player and coach, having played all 3 matches on the field. Lagreka went to the 1917 South American Championship as a playing coach, having played all three games again. On October 16, 1917, Lagreka spent his last match for the national team with Uruguay . He also twice coached the Brazilian national team in 1935 and 1940.

Interesting fact.

July 12, 1916 at the Uruguay-Brazil match, a fire broke out in the stands. Spectators fled in panic from the stands, on which the flags fluttered. Spectators took away three flags of the participating countries, but the Brazilian flag remained in place. Then Lagreka, putting on a jacket, climbed the match and took the flag, having received several burns . After Lagreka saved the flag, the Argentine police, where the match was held, wanted to take the flag to herself, but Lagreka did not give it away, for which he was sent to a local prison. However, after the intervention of the Argentinean football chairman, he was released [3] .
