Agavnavank ( armenian Աղավնավանք ) is a village in the Tavush region of Armenia . The village is located in the Dilijan Reserve , 27 km south of Ijevan and 73 km northeast of Hrazdan . The village is located on both banks of the Getik River. 3 km to the west is the village of Khachardzan , and 3 km to the south-east is the village of Dzoravank , which is already located in the neighboring Marz Gegharkunik Tavush .

Population
Before the Tatar-Mongol processions, the village was inhabited by Armenians. This is evidenced by medieval monuments and the Armenian Apostolic Church in the village. In ancient maps, the territory of the village of Agavnavank is part of Armenia. According to B. Veniaminov, for 1883, the inhabitants of the village of Salah, Kazakh county, Elizabethpol province were all of Tatar nationality, numbering up to 4800 people (2417 men and 2383 women). [1] According to the "Caucasian calendar" for 1912, 56 Tatars lived in the village of Salah, Kazakh county, Elizabethpol province [2] .
Yew Grove Akhnabad
At an altitude of 1400 to 1700 m, there is a relict 300-400 year old Yew grove Akhnabad. The area of the grove is 25 ha. The reserve is protected in accordance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR No. 20 dated January 29, 1959 . [3]
Ecology
Villagers regularly participate in the restoration of forest cover. In particular, 340,000 trees were planted on an area of 158 hectares. Residents of the villages of Dzoravank , Dprabak and Aygut also took part in this project. [4] [5] Small household tree nurseries were created for more than 250 rural families in the villages of Aigut Gegharkunik Marz and Agavnavank - Tavush . This PAD program, aimed at developing small businesses, was recognized as the national winner of the Energy Globe Awards this year, in which 853 projects from 109 countries participated. Representatives of the organization, which were awarded an honorary award in Brussels , proudly note that this has become an unprecedented recognition of their work [6] .
