Born in Verona , Peter's parents were followers of the Cathars . He graduated from the University of Bologna , received monastic tonsure from St. Dominic . Peter was a zealous Catholic, struggled with heresies, which ensured him a fast career:
- in 1232 he became papal ambassador to Milan ;
- in 1240 - Prior in Asti ;
- in 1241 - Prior in Piacenza ;
- in 1251 - papal ambassador to Cremona and in the same year a prior in Como and papal inquisitor in Como and in Milan.
April 6, 1252 Peter was killed in the forest near Barlassino on the road from Como to Milan , according to the official version - by the Cathars. On March 9, 1253, Pope Innocent IV canonized Peter. To intimidate heretics, he published the bull Ad extirpanda .
