The 17th National Football Championship of Azerbaijan was held in 2008–2009 with the participation of 14 clubs. FC “ Baku ” became the champion for the second time.

The opening of the championship was held on August 9 with the match " Bakily " - " Karabakh ", which ended with the victory of the guests with the score 2: 1.
