Biography
Born in 1821 in a noble Korean family from the Kim clan, whose members were converts to Catholics. His father, Ignatius Kim, was executed for his faith on September 26, 1839 and was also counted among the saints of the Catholic Church.
Kim Dae Gong was baptized at the age of 15. From 1837 to 1845 he studied at the Franciscan-led Theological Seminary , which was located in the Portuguese colony of Macau . In 1845 he was ordained a priest by Bishop Jean Ferreol. Immediately after the ordination, he returned to Korea to preach Christianity there. At that time, Korean Christians were brutally persecuted in Korea. In 1846, at the age of 25, Kim was arrested and beheaded.
Praise
On May 6, 1984, Andrei Kim Dae-gong was pinned by John Paul II as one of the other hundred and three Korean martyrs who suffered for their faith.
