The mirror area is 1900 km² , the average depth is only about 3 m , the maximum depth is 3.7 m. The lake occupies the territories of the Glades , Okeechobee , Martin , Palm Beach and Hendry counties . By area it is the largest lake in the south of the United States ( tenth in the country ) and the second largest freshwater lake in its entirety located in the country (after Lake Michigan ).
Several small rivers flow into the lake, the largest - Kissimmee . Several small channels of the Everglades biosystem follow from Okichobi, to which the lake belongs. There are also several small islands on the lake, the largest of which - Creamer - is inhabited. On the south coast is the city of Kluiston .
