Presidential Palace (Taipei)

Presidential Palace in Taipei, the former House of the Japanese Governor General

Presidential Palace ( Chinese: 中華民國 總統府 ) is a building located in Taipei , the capital of the Republic of China . Construction of the building continued from 1906 to 1919 . Initially, it was the House of the Governor General of Taiwan , since the island from 1895 to 1945 was a Japanese colony. Despite the fact that the building was badly damaged by the Allied bombing, the Chinese authorities began its restoration only in 1947 . In 1950 , when the government of the Republic of China lost control of mainland China, the building became the Palace of the President of the Republic of China.
