Hills ( Ukr. Hills ) is an urban-type settlement located in the north-west of the Koryukovsky district of the Chernihiv region , Ukraine on the banks of the Ubed river).

History

For the first time, the Hills are mentioned in the wagon of Ivan Samoilovich in 1674, by which they were assigned to military comrade V. Dunin-Borkovsky (subsequently colonel). However, it is believed that the Hills appeared long before 1600 .

After the reunification of Ukraine and Russia, the village became part of the Ponornitskaya hundreds of Chernihiv regiment . According to the census of 1666, there were 31 yards in the Hills, including 12 peasants (6 of them engaged in flight-keeping), where there were 6 horses and one ox . In addition, the village had 17 grocery yards. From all yards, they collected taxes of bread, rye and oats 29 osmachki with a half-october. Money 65 altyn. Yes, with storages with eight people a honey quit and a half pounds .

Until the 1830s the village of Kholmy is assigned to the Borkovsky - the descendants of Dunin-Borkovsky. Peasants were engaged mainly in tillage. Since the sandy lands were infertile, crafts became an additional source of livelihood for peasants in the second half of the 17th century.

The village was the volost center of the Kholmensky volost of the Sosnitsky district of the Chernihiv province. In the village of Holmy was the Mikhailovsky Church. Priests of the Mikhailovsky Church [2] :

In 1924, a pharmacy was opened in the Hills.

During the Great Patriotic War on August 23, 1941, German troops occupied the Hills . A few days later, in September 1941, an underground Komsomol organization, “Life Began,” began in the Hills and was led by a nine-member headquarters (Nikolai Eremenko, Shura Omelyanenko, Fenya Vnukova, Fedor Reznichenko, Katya Dyachenko, Leonid Tkachenko, Fenya Shevtsova, Nadia Galnitskaya and Nastya Reznichenko). The organization's activities covered the Hills, Pogoreltsy , Bobrik Farm, Kozilovka and Chenchyky , its members were connected to Soviet partisan detachments, collected weapons (by November 7, 1941 they had collected and handed over 8 rifles, 4 revolvers, 68 hand grenades and 5 thousand rounds of ammunition to the partisans), they wrote and distributed newspapers and leaflets (in total, they distributed over 15 thousand copies of newspapers, leaflets and bulletins of the Sovinformburo), and on the night before November 7, 1941, they hung red flags on the village buildings. March 1, 1942 the organization was identified and destroyed [3] .

September 15, 1943 during the offensive of Soviet troops, German troops were knocked out of the Hills.

In 1958, the Hills became an urban-type settlement. The largest enterprise at this time was the distillery [4] .

In January 1989, the population was3583 people [5] .

As of January 1, 2013, the population was 2788 people [6] .

Current status

Hills is located 33 km from the district center ( Koryukovka ). In demographic terms, depopulation is observed in the village: in 1983 , 3882 people lived in the village, and in 2006 - 3256 people, over 23 years the population of the village decreased by 626 people. Hills industry: food (oil and cheese and spirit industries) and building materials. There is a museum of local lore in the village.

Transport

The village is located 30 km from the railway station. Koryukovka station (the final point of the railway line from the Gomel - Bakhmach line) [4] .
