The 1996 Ice Hockey World Championship in Group D is an IIHF- sponsored ice hockey championship held in Kaunas and Elektrenai , Lithuania , from March25 to 31,1996 , as part of the 60th World Championship . The first place team won the right to play in group C of the 1997 World Cup .
