La Liga 2009/2010 (Also referred to as Spanish Liga BBVA due to sponsorship contract) - 79th Spanish Football Championship . Barcelona defended the league title. The season started on August 29, 2009 and ended on May 17, 2010 . The championship involves 20 teams. As a result of the tournament, the 3 teams that took last places flew to Segunda (Spain's Second League Football). As a result, on May 17, 2010, the Catalan Barcelona became the champion of Spain. The club scored 99 points and won its 20th championship title. Real Madrid scored 3 points less. The points scored by clubs became a record for champions and vice-champions of the Spanish championship, also both clubs won 31 matches, which is also a record (both in absolute number of victories and in the share of victory games from their total number - 81.6%).
