The son of a violinist, Hüllmandel studied with city bandmasters Joseph Garnier and Franz Xaver Richter ; some sources (in particular, Francois-Joseph Feti ) mention his training with Carl Philippe Emmanuel Bach . Having settled in Paris at the age of twenty, Hüllmandel won quick success in aristocratic salons; his first clavier compositions are dedicated, in particular, to Marie Antoinette and his wife Talleyrand . At the same time, Hüllmannel's sonatas attracted the attention of professionals: it is reported, in particular, that the sonata notebook Op. 3 ( 1777 ) aroused the interest of Mozart during his visit to Paris the following year [3] . In total, Hullmandel published in 1773 - 1788 . in Paris, 12 collections of sonatas for clavier (harpsichord or piano) with obligatory or arbitrary accompaniment. He also acted as a music teacher (among his students, Georges Onslow and Hyacinth Jaden , as well as Mademoiselle Lemashua, the future mother and first teacher of Charles Gounod ), edited the article “ harpsichord ” in the Didro Encyclopedia .
With the beginning of revolutionary events (in 1789 or 1790 ), Hüllmandel and his family emigrated to London. In 1796 , he released here another collection of sonatas. Hüllmandel’s son Charles Joseph Hüllmandel became one of the founders of British lithography.
