Biography

Isidor Shtok was born in the family of choirmaster and conductor Vladimir Borisovich Shtok. Mother, an opera singer, abandoned a theatrical career for the sake of the family. In September 1917, the family moved to Kharkov . After graduating from school in Kharkov, Stock moved to Moscow, where he studied at the theater studio at the Theater of the Revolution , then was an actor of the Proletcult Mobile Theater. In 1927, his first play Komsomol as such was staged on the stage of the Moscow Theater of Modern Buffoonery. The next play, Earth Holds, was staged in 1931 in Magnitogorsk , where Stock served as a journalist.

After the war, he began to write satirical plays-fairy tales, which were very successful. In the 1950s and 1960s, he worked as an artist and then as a playwright at the Moscow Roma Theater “ Romen ”, for whom he wrote a staging of Leskov's “Enchanted Wanderer” called “Grushenka” [1] .

The author of the plays “Divine Comedy” ( a performance of the same name staged by the Puppet Theater , 1961), Leningradsky Prospect, Noah's Ark, Anchor Square, Explanation of Hatred, Gastello, Winners of the Night, and many others, scripts for movies.

The dialogues in the plays of Stock are vivid; however, often in order to focus attention on the intended problem, the author artificially constructs the action, and assigns part of the characteristics to the direct statements of the actors. [2]

Member of the CPSU since 1953. Member of the Board of the joint venture of the RSFSR in 1965-1970.

He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Peredelkino near the station of the same name near Moscow.

Wife - Alexandra Nikolaevna Kononova, actress of the Romen Theater, Honored Artist of the RSFSR.
