Biography
He came from an old British aristocratic clan (three of his representatives were speakers in the House of Commons , his paternal grandfather received the count's title, the clan of the Earls Onslow is still part of the UK peer ). After a family scandal, his father, Edward Onslow, was forced to leave England and settled in Clermont-Ferrand in 1781 , and in 1793 , during espionage hysteria against the "agents of Pitt" during the French Revolution, as a British subject went to prison and was expelled from France. Georges, the eldest son, went into exile with his father. In 1798 - 1806 in London he studied piano playing by I. B. Kramer , J. V. Dusik , N. Zh. Hullmandel . He came to Germany and Austria , where he improved in the performing arts. However, music was only part of his broad aristocratic upbringing (mathematics, history, art, etc.). He played the cello in an amateur quartet, performed the compositions of Haydn , Mozart , and young Beethoven .
The decisive action in turning to composing was performed on Onslo by an overture to the opera by E. N. Megul Stratonik ( 1806 ). He began to compose, receiving the approval and support of Camille Pleyel and Antonin Reich . He quickly gained phenomenal fame, especially in Germany, where he received high marks from famous composers: Schumann and Mendelssohn , Beethoven and Schubert , was nicknamed the French Beethoven. In 1842 he was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of France.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Onsloe's music was forgotten. Her revival began in 1984 , when the bicentennial of the composer was celebrated.
