Etymology
Gav de Po in Lourdes
River at the exit of Gavarni
The term “gave” refers to the pre-Celtic period and is collective for the name of water flows in the western Pyrenees . The second part of the name comes from the city of Pau .
Geography
The source is located in the Pyrenees mountains, in the square of Gavarni ( fr. Le cirque de Gavarnie ). Gav de Pau merges with Gav d'Oloron and flows into Adur . The ten-kilometer section from the confluence of two rivers to the confluence of the Adur is called the “Unified Streams” ( French Gaves Réunis ).
