The Battle of Fokshany is a battle between the Cossack and Moldavian forces on the one hand and the Wallach forces on the other on May 22, 1653 during the Suceava campaign of Timosz Khmelnytsky . The battle was preceded by the retreat of the forces of George Stephen , the enemy of Timosz Khmelnytsky and Vasile Lupu , to Wallachia . In pursuit of it, the Cossacks and Moldavian troops occupied and burned the Fokshany , going to the Milkov River. There, they encountered a Wallachian squad of Diku Buescu.
The battle began on May 22, both banks of the Milkov River became the scene of hostilities. During the battle, the positions of both sides repeatedly passed from hand to hand until the offensive of the Moldavian infantry on the left bank of the river and the Cossack cavalry on the right began. This allowed the Cossack troops to cross the river, continuing the pursuit of Georgitsa.
