History

In 1946, Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant received equipment, drawings and technologies of the DKW plant, which were exported from Germany on account of reparations . In the same year, according to the drawings of the German motorcycle β€œ DKW NZ-350 ”, designed by G. Weber , the plant mastered the production of the motorcycle β€œIzh-350”. He was a mixture of different versions of the German motorcycle. So, the crankcase was made of aluminum alloy, as in the earlier models, but mud pads - as in the later ones, produced during the war. The motorcycle was adapted for domestic electrical equipment and appliances. In general, the general appearance and design were almost identical with the German original. It should be noted that for its time it was a fairly modern, simple and reliable motorcycle. In 1951, without stopping production, the transition was made to the mass production of the IZH-49 motorcycle.

Construction

The motorcycle is equipped with a single-cylinder, two-stroke engine of air cooling with a reciprocating loop two-jet blowing, with the preparation of the working mixture in the carburetor and its ignition in the cylinder from an electric spark [2] . Crankshaft - assembly, extruded. Carter - block type. In the front part there is a crank chamber, in the rear there is a gearbox. Carter consists of two halves with a connector along the middle longitudinal plane. The footswitch pedal and the kick starter pedal are located on the left side of the gearbox housing.

The front wheel together with the brake, the drive gear of the speedometer and the mud shield are attached to the moving part of the parallelogram plug. A headlight is fixed on the fork, in the case of which a speedometer is mounted, which is connected by a flexible shaft to a gearbox. The wheel of the motorcycle is fixed in the brackets of the upper bridge of the parallelogram fork, which rotates by 35 Β° in both directions. In this case, the steering wheel can be fixed in a convenient position for the driver.

On the right side of the fuel tank is fixed sector manual shift. When shifting gears with a pedal, the lever moves to the position corresponding to the gear engaged.

The low weight of the unsprung part and the slightly variable reach give a very good stability and controllability of the motorcycle. Rear wheel unsprung, fixed in frame. Wheels - easily removable, non-interchangeable.

Sports modifications

A characteristic feature of the Soviet motorcycle industry in the 40s and 60s was the release of sports modifications of road motorcycles. Having laid the foundation for the development of mass motor sport, they became at the same time β€œtest benches” for checking those solutions that were then applied to serial products. In 1948, the Izh-350S motorcycle was manufactured with a telescopic front fork, replacing the archaic parallelogram. The rear wheel received a candle suspension with spring-hydraulic shock absorbers. The engine had an aluminum cylinder with a cast iron sleeve. Its power increased to 14 hp In 1950, the mass production of an improved version of the Izh-50 cross-country motorcycle began.
