Belarusian-Serbian relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Serbia were established in 1994 . Initially, diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 15, 1994 in the form of relations between Belarus and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia .

In November 1996, the embassy of Belarus in Belgrade was opened. Alexander Lukashenko twice visited Belgrade in 1998-99 on an official visit [1] .

In March 2009, Alexander Lukashenko paid a working visit to Serbia [2] .

In May 2009, during the National Exhibition of Serbia in Minsk , a major contract was signed for the construction of the Delta city business center and the development of the territory near the National Library with a total investment of several billion euros [3] .

In 2003, the FRY was transformed into Serbia and Montenegro , and on December 27, 2007, in connection with the termination of the existence of Serbia and Montenegro as a single state, the embassy in Serbia and Montenegro was transformed into an embassy in Serbia [4] . Currently, the ambassador of Serbia to Belarus is Srechko Djukic, the ambassador of Belarus to Serbia is V. A. Matskevich.

Between 2004 and 2008, trade between the two countries increased from $ 35.1 million to $ 64.8 million, with a noticeable surplus for Belarus. The structure of Belarusian exports is dominated by engineering products, as well as metallurgy and the chemical industry. The share of Serbia in the foreign trade balance of Belarus is about 0.2% [1] .

Belarus supports Serbia on the status of Kosovo and does not recognize its independence [5] [6] .

On June 8, 2012, Serbia joined the EU sanctions against Belarus: visa bans for a number of senior Belarusian officials, security officials and entrepreneurs, as well as economic sanctions against a number of enterprises [1] [7] .
