Water sampling from an ice hole
A hole [1] is a hole cut in the ice cover of a reservoir (river, lake, etc.) [2] .
An ice hole is made for fishing , collecting water, rinsing clothes , and sometimes for swimming (see Winter swimming ).
The hole made for blessing water and bathing at Epiphany is also called Jordan.
Also, ice holes are made to prevent fish from becoming frozen in the winter in bodies of water with standing or weakly running water [3] .
