It is found in western China and Tibet . It occupies vast areas. Under natural conditions, grows on rocky slopes, preferring heights of 2700–4800 m above sea level .
Shrubs or trees 5-15 m in height. The leaves are green-blue. Dioecious plant species. Cones are ovoid 7-13 mm in diameter, 9-16 in length, blue-black, contain 1 seed. Cones ripen in the second year. Tibetan juniper grows slowly. The wood of the tree is resistant to decay. The landings are very decorative. It is very actively used by the local population for economic purposes.
