Group History
In the spring of 2002 , Finland hosted the Popstars contest of pop singers, at which participants were selected to create a pop group. 454 girls competed in singing. In the last round of the competition, they chose from 25. The participants in the first Finnish “Popstars” group were Enni Vartiainen , Susanna Korvala, Ushma Karnani and Yonna Pirinen. For several weeks the group was in a tense situation, and eventually Yonna left the project. Ushma, Susanna and Yenny continued to participate. The group was decided to name Gimmel .
The word gimmel means the Renaissance engagement ring, the Gimmel ring , which consists of several parts. Each of them designated the groom, the bride and the witness. The ring itself symbolized endless and stable relationships. Gimel is also the third letter of the Hebrew alphabet ; its numerical value is three.
