History

Laid on November 15, 1961 on a slipway of workshop No. 42 of the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise .

Launched on September 7, 1962 . From October 11 to November 21, 1962, mooring tests of equipment and mechanisms were carried out on the boat. Factory running tests were carried out in the period from November 22 to 24, 1962. State tests took place from November 25 to December 27, 1962. On December 27, 1962, the State Commission signed the act of completing state tests of the K-181 submarine .

Included in the Northern Fleet on January 11, 1963 , enlisted in the 3rd submarine division with a base in Western Litsa . The captain of the 2nd rank Sysoev Yu. A. was appointed the first commander of the K-181 submarine

In the period from September 25 to October 4, 1963, the K-181 submarine made an Arctic trip to the North Pole region . September 29, 1963 at 6 o’clock in the morning the boat left at the calculated point of the North Pole. At 6 hours 51 minutes, the submarine surfaced in a wormwood, in the immediate vicinity of the pole. On ice, on a specially installed mast, the state and naval flags were raised. The duration of the trip was 9 days and 3 hours, 3464 nautical miles were covered in 219 hours, of which 1800 nautical miles under 107 hours under the ice. The direct control of the campaign was carried out by the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Kasatonov V.A. , commander of the K-181 submarine, captain of the 2nd rank Sysoev Yu.A. In addition to the crew on board the K-181 submarine, were the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Kasatonov V.A. Rear Admiral Antonov G.G., chief of the political department of the 1st submarine flotilla, chief of the Northern Fleet’s Operations Directorate, captain 1st rank Shindel D.I., chief navigator of the Navy, 1st rank captain A. Motrokhov, deputy commander of the 1st flotilla submarines by electromechanical cha ti captain Budaev MM, deputy commander of the 3rd Division submarine captain 2 rank Rykov, VP, representatives of the media , research institutions , all with the crew of the boat 124 people. During the trip, tests were conducted of the Sigma experimental navigation complex and a prototype of a receiver-indicator capable of receiving signals of an ultra-long-wave long-range navigation system in underwater position.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 18, 1964, the commander of the K-181 submarine, Captain 2nd Rank Sysoev Yu.A. was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

From March 16 to April 14 and from June 17 to August 15, 1964, the K-181 submarine made two military campaigns in the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic according to the Fencing exercise plan. In the period from 1965 to 1970, the boat counted two autonomous campaigns for military service with a total duration of 134 days. In 1966, in the process of performing a combat mission, the K-181 submarine carried out long-term tracking of the US Navy’s strike operational unit, led by the Saratoga strike aircraft carrier .

In the period from December 1967 to October 1968, the boat underwent regular repairs with reloading of the reactor core.

On February 20, 1968, the K-181 submarine , the first post-war period in the history of the USSR Navy, was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .

In December 1968, during an autonomous march to combat service, the K-181 submarine carried out the first call of an atomic submarine in the foreign port of Alexandria in the history of the USSR Navy.

From 1971 to 1974, the boat underwent ongoing repairs at shipyard No. 10. In 1974, it was transferred to the 17th submarine division with a base in Gremikha .

In the 1976-1981 campaign , the K-181 submarine was in 4 autonomous campaigns for military service with a total duration of 150 days. On October 18, 1976, during the combat service, when diving to a depth of 180 meters, the inflow of sea water through the removable sheet of the 5th compartment was discovered. The boat was forced to emerge to the surface to compress the removable sheet.

In 1979, the K-181 submarine had a refrigerator leak, which led to the need for an atomic power plant with a filter of circuit 1 turned off.

In 1984, the submarine was used for combat duty and fulfilled the tasks of combat training at sea and at the base. In October 1984, the K-181 submarine was put into average repair. In 1987, repairs were discontinued and on September 16, 1987, the boat was withdrawn from the Navy .

In total, since launching the K-181 submarine , 185,641 nautical miles have passed in 20,773 running hours.

From 1991 to 1997, the boat was in the temporary storage center afloat.

In 1998, after dismantling the reactor compartments, the K-181 submarine was disposed of.

The red flag of the ship was inherited by the submarine K-328 Leopard .
