Gofrey

Gofrey ( fr. Gaufrey , also Gottfried Dane ) - the character of the French epic , the hero of the eponymous poem. The eldest son of Dona de Mayans , the father of Ogier the Dane .

Content

Poem

The poem dates from the XIII century . It was written as the connecting link between the Dawn de Mayans poem and works on Ogier Dane. She picks up many themes of the poem "Dona de Mayans" (in particular, the theme of cooperation of heroes with the giant Robastre), and also introduces many new motives. Enchanting motifs associated with the images of Robaster and his father, Malabron’s spirit, repeat some themes of Guon de Bordeaux , and the motive of betrayal is an important plot-forming element. The bearer of this motive is one of the twelve brothers, Griffon d'Otfeus, named here the father of the traitor Ganelon .

Prologue

In the prologue, the author of the poem proposes a genealogy of the Dona de Mayans (“Mainz”) family, which he imagines. The genealogy created here for the first time (and rather arbitrarily) united the characters from previously autonomous songs into a single cycle .

Story

"Gofrey" is a direct continuation of the poem "Dona de Meyans." Doan and his associate Garen were captured by Emir Gloriant. Gofrey hurries to their rescue. Along the way, he wins a lot of victories, conquers lands for his younger brothers, some of whom he marries. One of the brothers, Griffon, once refuses to help others. Captured by Dawan and Garen, the beautiful young Saracezka Flordepina takes care of her. The giant robaster helps Gofrei in his exploits. He meets his father, the wizard Malabron, who demonstrates all sorts of miracles. Berard and other peers are also captured by the Saracens, but with the help of the Flordepins they capture the fortress in which they were imprisoned. Begins the Saracen. It all ends with the victory of the Franks and numerous marriages with the Saracens taking Christianity.
