History
Even in the Epoch of Woosen and Autumn, Yushui County (涂 水 县) existed in these places. In the Age of Warring Kingdoms, it was renamed Yuci (涂 次 县). Thus, the history of these places has more than two thousand years.
In 1949, Yuytsi Special Region (榆次 专区) was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1954, the Urban District of Yuci County was allocated to the city of Yuci of provincial submission.
In 1958, Yuytsi Special District was renamed the Jinzhong Special Region (晋中 专区), and Yuytsi was demoted and transferred to its jurisdiction (the lands of the former Yuytsi county were transferred to the jurisdiction of Yuytsi). In 1963, the city of Yuci was transformed into a county.
In 1970, Jinzhong Special District was renamed Jinzhong County (晋中 地区). In 1971, the city of Yuci was re-formed, subordinate to Jinzhong County.
In 1999, by decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Jinzhong County and the City of Yuqi were disbanded, and the Jinzhong City District was formed; The territory of the former city of Yuqi became the Yuqi district of Jinzhong City District.
