The early years and personal life

Kirill Kleimenov was born on September 20, 1972 in Moscow . My father graduated from the Physics Department of Moscow State University , worked at the Institute of Chemical Physics , studied acoustic microscopy, and later did business. Mother, a graduate of the philological faculty of Moscow State University, worked as a journalist, then - in the state structure ^[6] .

In 1989 he graduated from Moscow secondary school No. 43 named after Yu. A. Gagarin ^[7] (now - Moscow gymnasium in the South-West No. 1543) ^[8] .

In 1990, he was a publishing editor on the broadcasting of the USSR State Radio and Television ^[1] .

In 1991, he completed an eight-month internship at the Finnish State University in Helsinki ^[1] .

In 1994 he graduated from the Roman - German branch of the Philological Faculty of MV Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) ^{[1] [9]} .

He speaks foreign languages: Finnish, English and Swedish. He is fond of water sports, in school he was engaged in hockey and swimming , while studying at Moscow State University - sambo ^{[1] [10]} .

He is a fan of the Moscow football club Spartak ^[11] .

Married. The first wife (1994-2000) is Maya, a classmate ^[12] . The second wife is Maria. Cyril and Maria have a common daughter, Alexander (born 2001) ^{[6] [10]} . As of 2018, has two children ^[5] .

Career

Since the spring of 1992, Kirill Kleimenov worked at several radio stations, was the host of information (on Radio 101 ) and music programs (on Rox radio station). At the same time he was a correspondent for the Interfax news agency ^[1] .

In May 1993 he was appointed editor of international information in the Teleutro program on Channel 1 of Ostankino ^{[12] [9] [13]} , and since July of that year he became the host of the Chronicle of the Day section of this program ^[1] .

Since June 1997 he began to conduct morning and afternoon issues of " News " on " ORT " ^[14] .

From November 7, 1998 to April 28, 2004, he was the permanent presenter of the information television program Vremya of the Directorate of Information Programs of ORT OJSC, and from September 2002 - OJSC Channel One ^{[14] [15]} , alternating with Ekaterina Andreeva “one week after one” schedule. The decision to appoint Kleimenov as the leader was made by Sergey Dorenko , at that time - the main producer of the Directorate of Information Programs and the director of the ORT information service ^[16] .

In 2002, he hosted a special talk show about the World Cup in South Korea and Japan under the name "Big Football" on the same channel ^[17] .

In 2003, he co-authored ^[18] , the host of the documentary investigation into Killing Kennedy (directed by Anton Megerdichev ) ^[19] .

From May to November 2004, he worked as the press secretary of the president and deputy head of the public relations department of the Lukoil company ^{[1] [20]} .

On November 16, 2004 he was appointed Director of the Information Programs Directorate and Deputy General Director of Channel One ^{[20] [21]} (replacing Sergey Goryachev in this position).

From 2007 to the present, he is a member of the Academy of Russian Television ^[4] .

In 2008 and 2009, Kirill Kleimenov talked with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the air of the Vremya program ^{[2] [22] [23]} .

Kleimenov also participated in Direct Lines with Vladimir Putin ; initially, in 2001-2003, as a moderator of telephone calls ^{[24] [25]} , in 2013-2015, as the main host of the program paired with Maria Sittel ^[26] and in 2018, with Andrei Kondrashov ^[27] .

He starred in the feature film " Night Watch " directed by Timur Bekmambetov in the role of a cameo - the host of the Channel One news ^[28] .

He is a member of the Board of Directors of JSC (from December 2016 - JSC) Channel One ^[3] .

Since August 26, 2013 he has been a member of the Council for the Prizes of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of mass media ^[29] .

He is a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation of the convocation of 2017-2020 ^[5] .

January 1, 2018 held the New Year issue of the program “Time”, dedicated to its 50th anniversary ^[30] .

From February 19 to May 8 ^[31] and from October 8 to December 29, 2018 ^{[32] he} was the host of the information television program Vremya on Channel One for Central Russia on weekdays ^[33] . He returned to the air after a break of more than ten years ^[34] . In one of the interviews, talking about his return to the frame, he admitted that as soon as it is possible to create and test the new format of the studio and program as a working and understandable system, “he will gladly transfer everything to other hands” ^[35] .

Commenting on replacing the presenters in the Vremya program in 2018, TV critic Slava Taroshchina suggested that Ekaterina Andreeva , unlike Kirill Kleimenov, did not have the “necessary degree of arrogance and permissiveness”, while cynicism and “habbalistic, victorious” intonation in news programs on federal channels, it is more important than the information itself ^[36] .

The columnist of the newspaper Sobesednik Olga Saburova described Kirill Kleimenov as “a daily copy of Kiselev ” ^[33] .

Television critic Alexander Kondrashov also compared these presenters, adding only that Kiselev in this image is more organic ^[37] .

Reviewer of the Lenta.ru Internet portal, Svetlana Povoraznyuk, analyzing the work of the presenter, noted that the character of Kleimenov’s submarines has some similarities with those of Kiselev and partly with the former presenter of Vremya Valery Fadeev ^[38] .

According to Vladimir Kara-Murza , the presenter of Vremya imitates not so much a colleague from the Rossiya-1 channel as his boss Konstantin Ernst , copying his style and hairstyle ^[39] . Among other things, in a later article, the observer described Kleimenov as a rather average presenter, incapable of demonstrating something supernatural, which will be remembered by the audience exclusively as “rudeness that allowed itself to broadcast the main news” ^[40] .

Irina Petrovskaya calls Kleimenov “the singer of parallel reality” ^[41] and believes that he violates the canons of the information genre by constantly expressing his personal opinion about the events covered in order to form an appropriate attitude of the audience to what is happening ^[42] . So, she noted that, covering the presidential campaign , the presenter turned each of his eyeliner “either into a sermon, then into a venomous feuilleton, or even into an inspired apology” ^[43] . Another example of this kind is the coverage of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal , talking about which, Kleimenov declared the danger of “the profession of a traitor”, which caused resonance in a number of European media ^{[44] [45]} . Other ambiguous statements and evaluative judgments of the presenter on the air have also repeatedly been the subject of attention of journalists and critics ^{[46] [47] [48] [16]} .

According to the television observer of the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets Alexander Melman, Kleimenov “is not engaged in journalism, but in propaganda” ^[49] .
