History
Since the release of the seventh studio album Milen Farmer, reports have appeared in the press that in 2009 a concert tour of the singer is planned in support of the album. [one]
Farmer herself commented on reports about the upcoming tour: “I am returning to the stage because I am bored. I need to renew my life. (...) I want to be overwhelmed again. ” [2] [3] She announced that the tour will take place all over France, and that the show will be grandiose. [four]
The first was announced a concert at the Stade de France stadium in Paris , scheduled for September 12, 2009 (the day that coincides with the singer’s birthday), then another concert on September 4 at the stadium in Geneva . Tickets for both concerts were released on March 28, 2008 . [5] [6] [7] The second concert at the Stade de France on September 11th was announced later, on March 29th , and tickets for it were put out for sale on April 1, 2008 . [8] In April, a concert in Brussels was scheduled for September 19th . [9] [10] Then information appeared about other concerts in cities such as Bordeaux , but not officially confirmed. Farmer has confirmed that the tour will make a stop in Russia in the summer of 2009, and there have also been rumors of upcoming concerts in Latvia and Ukraine . [11] [12] On May 15, four concerts were officially announced: two in Nantes and two in Rouen in May 2009. The next day, the Polydor record company confirmed them and added eleven concerts in various cities ( Nice , Clermont-Ferrand , Marseille , Toulouse , Nantes , Rouen , Strasbourg , Dijon , Lyon ). [13] On May 23, three more dates were added: May 6 ( Clermont-Ferrand ), May 26 ( Nantes ) and June 9 ( Dijon ). On November 30, information about four concerts in Russia appeared in the Russian media. On January 26, 2009, one concert was announced in Amneville .
In February 2009, TS3, the producer of the Milen Farmer tour, canceled concerts in Eastern Europe without explanation. However, there were rumors that this was due to the fact that local concert organizers are experiencing financial difficulties. At the same time, new concert dates were announced: June 28 in St. Petersburg and July 1 in Moscow , arranged by other local organizers .
Various media have claimed that the scene will be made entirely of glass [14] and installed at a height of more than three meters above the ground. [15] However, these details of stage design were refuted by Thierie Syuk, creative director of the tour. [16] He also said that there would be some differences between performances in stadiums and on smaller indoor venues. [17] Jean-Paul Gaultier was confirmed as a costume designer for the tour. [18] It was also announced that the entire show would be filmed "using a very sophisticated three-dimensional movie technique." [nineteen]
A few days before the start of the tour, the last rehearsals of the concert in Nice were held. [20]
Polemic
The poster of the tour, first shown on the Internet and then used for posters in Paris , caused a mixed reaction. On this poster, Farmer is lying on the ground with crazy eyes, as if she had just been thrown out of a window. As a result, some media outlets have criticized this poster as being suicidal . [21] [22] [23] [24] [25] Other media claimed that he was involved in the murder or rape, and possibly the farewell of the singer to her fans. [26] Others saw it as a successful commercial move that attracted the attention of the public. [27] The poster was the subject of discussion between Milen Farmer fans and critics on the Internet. [28]
Commercial Success
During the sale of tickets for the first of the announced concerts at the Stade de France stadium, sites like Fnac , [29] experienced an unprecedented stir. The number of requests to sites reached 25 thousand per minute. [30] Some Internet users have complained about this issue. [31] The same thing happened on April 1 during the sale of tickets for the second concert at the Stade de France. [32] According to Michael Dryberg, director of Live Music, a concert in Geneva was the fastest sold out in history in Switzerland. [33] [34]
Tickets for the concert on September 12 (80 thousand seats) [35] were completely sold out within two hours. [36] [37] At that time, it was a record. [38] About 17 thousand tickets were sold in two hours for the first concert in Geneva, which was also a record, [39] and all tickets for this date (40 thousand seats) [40] were completely sold out within a week. [41] Tickets for the second concert at the Stade de France were also completely sold out in a very short time [42] [43] (one hour and a quarter) [44] which again became a record. [45] In order to buy a concert ticket in Brussels, many people slept on the street in front of the ticket offices. [46] Thus, 40 thousand tickets were also sold out very quickly. [47] During the sale of tickets for the Palais Nicaya concert in Nice, the Fnac site on which tickets were sold was attacked by fans just before the start of ticket sales on June 23, and two-thirds of the tickets for the show were sold during the day. [48] On the same day, the first two concerts in Nantes were declared completely sold out. [49] On May 26, concerts in Marseilles were also almost sold out, and according to the French newspaper La Provence , about 9.5 million euros were raised for them. [50] On May 27, Universal Music published a press release on exceptional concert ticket sales: 100,000 seats were sold on the same day on May 23, 2008, which was a record. [51]
Many tickets were sold at incredibly high prices by dealers. [52] As a result, many disgruntled fans signed an online petition condemning such abuses. [53] [54] [55] [56]
Scene Design
The most notable on the stage equipped for the performance are two huge skeletons made in the spirit of sculptures from the 15th century, a staircase in the center, as well as many naked mannequins (which look like dolls, like the album cover), located on shelves as in a library. Orange is one of the dominant colors. [57] [58] For transportation of the stage and personnel were used: six buses for 120 people, twenty trucks weighing 38 tons, 380 floodlights to illuminate the stage. For each performance, 300 kilowatts of electricity and a giant screen are used. [59]
Critical Reviews
Criticism in French editions
Criticism in France spoke positively of the show. Nice Matin rated the show “grandiose and neat at the same time, but also full of emotion and pleasure.” [60] La Montagne and Le Parisien wrote: “An impressive design, an abundance of light, screens, guitars, dancers (...). The whole play! ”, [61] “ what an amazing show! ”. [62] According to La Provence , many fans were very pleased with the concert and called it “grandiose”. [63]
Reviews of concerts in the Russian media
The Russian press also generally favorably spoke about the concerts that took place as part of the tour in St. Petersburg and Moscow . Many publications noted that “the show was sustained in the spirit of a cemetery,” [64] and the concert's finale was even compared to a descent into the underworld . [65] Newspaper. Roux wrote about the concert: "the show is striking in its scope and brilliance, and the special effects are worthy of the Hollywood blockbuster." [66] The Kommersant business publication, along with the characterization of the show as “good,” nevertheless noted that the organization of the concert in Moscow left much to be desired. [67]
