Corps Combat Path
The corps was created (as the 48th motorized) on December 15, 1940. Before the attack on the USSR, on June 22, 1941, Kleist’s 1st Panzer Group ( Army Group “South” ) was attached, first participated in a tank battle near Dubno , then in the capture of Berdichev and Kirovograd . From the end of 1941 until May 1942, he fought near Kursk .
On June 21, 1942, the corps was renamed the tank. In the summer, the corps participated in a general offensive in the south, during the counterattack of Soviet troops near Stalingrad suffered heavy losses (from the Soviet 1st tank corps ). Nevertheless, the corps was quickly reorganized and used by Manstein in an attempt to release the 6th Army .
In February 1943, he defended Kharkov , then participated in the Battle of Kursk , being on the left flank as part of the 4th Panzer Army .
Then the corps retreated with battles around Ukraine , in the winter of 1945 he defended Silesia . After the surrender of Germany, he surrendered at the Elbe .
