Driver's cab

ICE 3 High Speed Electric Driver's Cab

The driver's cab is a special separate room on the locomotive that serves as the workplace of the locomotive brigade and in which are located the controls, equipment and instruments necessary to maintain the power plant ( steam boiler , diesel ) and to regulate the operation of engines ( steam engine , traction motors ). On locomotives, the driver's cab is called the driver's booth [1] , while on the rolling stock, the control post .

Construction

Modern driver's cab is one of the main components of the locomotive. In it, the locomotive crew spends several hours in a row, so the creation of the necessary amenities for it has a positive effect on the safety of railway transport.

The walls of the cabin are heat and soundproofed with a mipora , nylon fiber mats or polystyrene foam and sheathed with a hard fiberboard , paper-laminated plastic, profiled aluminum sheets. The flooring of the cabin is made of plywood sheets and covered with linoleum . For access to pipelines and electrical wiring in the floor there are metal hatches. For the glazing of windows are used shatterproof glass ( triplex ). Side windows are sliding, have pivoting safety guards (wind-cuts). The following equipment is usually located in the driver’s cab:

  • Driver's control panel, driver controller.
  • Remote control assistant driver.
  • Brake controllers: driver 's crane, auxiliary brake crane, blocking device, double thrust crane.
  • Typhon , whistle, sandbox control valves.
  • Hand brake drive.
  • Pressure regulator.
  • Searchlight .
  • Safety devices : ALSN , speed meter, electro-pneumatic self- stop valve, additional safety devices.
  • Remote control radio station.
  • Driver 's seat, driver's assistant seat.
  • Heating stoves, air heater for windshield windows, ventilation devices, air conditioning .
  • Ceiling lights, backlight documents and instrument lighting.
  • Wipers, shields or curtains.

On the driver’s panel there are push-button switches, warning lights and measuring devices:

  • Voltmeter of voltage in the contact network (on electric locomotives ), voltage voltmeter on traction motors , ammeters of current of traction motors (separately for each section), ammeter of excitation current of traction motors.
  • Manometers: main tank, surge tank, brake line , brake cylinders .

The driver’s assistant console contains push-button switches, a voltage voltmeter on the battery and control circuits, and a pressure gauge for compressed air in electrical equipment circuits.

In the locomotive cabin, additional measuring devices are installed: a voltage generator for a traction generator and an ammeter for the load current of a generator, electrothermometers for water and diesel oil temperature, and diesel oil pressure electromanometers.
