He formed the basis of the first line of the KamAZ plant and was mass-produced from 1976 to 2000 under the name KamAZ-5320 . Having developed a family of cars ZIL-133 , whose launch into production was postponed for various reasons, in 1967 ZEO began to work on a new promising family of cars ZIL-170 (6 × 4) and ZIL-175 (4 × 2), similar to on class ZIL-133.
American International COF-220 (1962-1966) was chosen as a prototype. . This could be due to the fact that the chief designer of trucks ZIL Anatoly Mavrikievich Krieger was well acquainted with the cars of the company International Harvester to work on the ZIS-150. In the ZIL version, the International COF-220 stall acquired slightly different, more rectangular shapes and a different front end. For KAMAZ vehicles, the cabin was reworked again.
In 1968, the Likhachev plant developed a family of three-axle trucks ZIL-170 for the KAMAZ plant under construction. The projected family of cars included: three-axle flatbed truck ZIL-170, long-wheelbase three-axle flatbed truck ZIL-170A, short-wheeling three-axle chassis under the dump truck ZIL-170S, three-axle truck tractor ZIL-170T. In 1968 one prototype of the three-axle truck tractor ZIL-170T was made of the above vehicles.
The design of such a three-axis machine began even before the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 1084 of November 16, 1967 began. So, for example, in the 1967 book of release (put in a set in April 1966) the diskless wheel 260 × 508 on five spokes was described and illustrated, exactly as used in ZIL-170 [1] .
In the middle of 1969, the family was assigned a new indexation: a three-axle side truck 5320, a long-wheel base three-axle side truck 53202, a short-base three-axle chassis for a dump truck 5510, a three-axle truck tractor 5410. Five cars of the family were made in 1969: one two-axle five-axle five-axle five-axle 5320, manufactured by one, 520, was installed; three-axle flatbed truck 53202, two short-base three-axle chassis for a dump truck 5510.
Since 1972, the cars received a new cab of the “5320” model and were designated KAMAZ (the basic flatbed truck was designated KAMAZ-5320). From 1972 to 1975, the Likhachev Plant manufactured the following models of KAMAZ vehicles: KAMAZ-5320; KAMAZ-53201; KAMAZ-53202; KAMAZ-53203; KAMAZ-5410; KAMAZ-54101; KAMAZ-54102; KAMAZ-5510. Since 1973, cars have received the finalized cab model "5320" (triple) and "5410" (triple with a sleeping compartment).
