Lame king

Lame king

Iron helmet, wooden crutch,
The king was returning home from the war.
The soldiers sang, swallowing dust
And the lame king sang with them.

“The Lame King” - a song by Alexander Dulov to the poem by Maurice Karem Le retour du roi (literally - “The Return of the King”) translated from French by Mikhail Kudinov [1] . The song exists not only in Russian, but also in French , German , Esperanto . The song was repeatedly included in the repertoire of professional pop singers and was recorded on a record [2] .

The "Lame King" became widely known in the 1960s performed by Vadim Mulerman . The famous figure pair of Tamara Moskvin’s sports pair, Alexei Mishin , was made to the figure skating song; later, a fragment of it sounded in the 4th issue of “Well, wait a minute!” [3] . With her, Mulerman became a laureate of the 1966 All-Union Pop Art Competition. At this contest, he was forced to discard the last verse from the song (which states that the king “lost the war, lost it all”) and call it “The Winning King” (the editors saw in the last couplet a hint of the country's top leadership) [4] .
